Though DIY artists have their work cut out for them to make a career in the entertainment industry, their independence can be leveraged to build relationships that lead to paying gigs. This panel, consisting of a booking agent, a self-booking artist, and an event planner will help you unlock the hidden economy of gigs that are off the beaten path of the traditional entertainment industry. Panelists will tell you how they operate, what event planners and talent buyers are looking for, and the best ways for you to get hired for paying gigs. You will learn how to use email, testimonials, social media and video to get more gigs. And, you will walk away from this session with tactics you can implement the very next day.

This workshop is hosted by Gig Salad, a North American marketplace for booking tens of thousands of bands, musicians, entertainers, speakers and services for parties, productions, and events of all types and sizes.

Panelists include Heather Roonan, an expert in all things entertainment, with her wealth of knowledge in the entertainment booking industry and events space; Judson Hurd, a Wilmington musician, whose music has reached over 2,000,000 views on YouTube. Judson writes music for radio and TV, with Android, Jaguar, Land Rover, the Oprah Show, and PBS among his clients. And, finally, Blaire Postman, an energetic stand-up comedian who has opened for nationally renowned comedians and was a finalist in Port City's Top Comic 2015
